It is a large deciduous tree which reaches a height of about 30-40m. It has a broad straight trunk and horixontally spreading branches, some varieties are covered with spines.
LEAVES: Leaves are compound with 5-8 leaflets.
FLOWERS: It produces clustered flowers which are yellowish white to rose in colour and densely hairy on the outer surface.
FRUITS: Fruit is a long capsule hanging from branches and contains about 120-175 rounded dark brown to black seeds embedded in the mass of grey woolly hairs.
Uses
1. Its fibre has low density ad insulating properties that makes it suitable for a variety of commercial applications such as filling for pillows, mattresses and clothes, also thermal and acoustic insulation.
2. Its wood is useful for plywood.
3.The tree is grown as a boundary tree and fences along roadsides.
4. Its seeds contain oil that can be used for cooking, soap making and as a lubricant; 4. Its flowers is a source of pollen for honey bees.
5. It is also used as animal feeds.
