Description

It is an evergreen tree with a straight bole that grows between 15-30 metres tall with a trunk up to 12 metres long and 50cm in diameter.

ROOTS: They are shallow and spreading.

SEEDS: It produces seed as a seedling.

LEAVES: The mature plant does not have true leaves but it has leaf-like flattened stems called phyllodes which are thinly textured.

FLOWERS: They are light golden in colour.

BARK: It is grey or brown in colour and sometimes blackened at the base, they are smooth in young trees but become rough with age.

Uses

1. It serves as an ornamental plant.

2. Its wood is used for pulp paper production, furniture and tools.

3. It contains tannin useful in animal hide tanning.

4. It serves as a source of firewood.

5. The flowers are source of pollen for honey production.

6. It serves as shade.

7. The root system helps in erosion control and it improves the soil physio-chemical properties.
