It is a fast-growing, semi-evergreen shrub which can grow to a small tree to reach a height of 5-8cm.
LEAVES: It has sharply toothed, opposite leaves that are pinnates unpaired, with 3-13 serrate and 8-10cm long leaflets. The leaflets are glaborous on both sides and they have an elliptical lanceolate blade which are 2-10cm long and 1-4cm wide.
FLOWER: It has a large, golden yellow, trumphet-shaped flower which are in clusters at the branch end. Flowering takes place throughout the year; the fruits arise from two carpels. It attracts bees, butterflies and humming birds.
BARK: The bark on the main stem is light brown to pale grey, it is furrowed and has a relatively rough texture.
REPRODUCTION: It reproduces sexually or asexually.
SEEDS: Its seeds does not require pre-treatments, it germinates easily and can be sown in nursery beds or containers. Seed storage is orthodox and can be stored for a long time under ideal condition, it can also be regenerated through cuttings.
1. It is ornamental, the trees can be planted as live hedge and to provide shade.
2. The light brown wood is hard and very durable used in cabinet making, turnery, tools and in building construction.
3. Trees provide firewood and charcoal.
4. Its flowers and root decoction can be taken orally as a diuretic to treat syphilis or for intestinal worms, a leaf infusion can be taken orally for treating diabetes and stomach pain.
